Surabaya (22/5) – Pelindo Marines (PT Pelindo Marine Service - Pelindo III Group) is ready for various adjustments on its business process during the Covid-19 Pandemic. As instructed by the Ministry of State-owned Enterprises (SOE), 'the New Normal' scenario should be executed on May 26.
"As the subsidiary of Pelindo III that supports marine services, such as pilotage and vessel towage at the port, Pelindo Marines ensures to maintain 24/7 operational services to support the national logistics' flow of goods. Logistics supply becomes essential for public sufficient food supplies and commodities during the economic crisis," said the Director of Finance, HR, and GA of Pelindo Marines, Denny Hermanto, Friday (22/5), in Surabaya.
Moreover, the Covid-19 Pandemic is stated as Extraordinary Occurrence (KLB) by the Government. Pelindo Marines formed Covid-19 Task Force, aim to make sure the health protocols are socialized and executed. "Started from the distributions of masks, multivitamin, warm-herb drinks, fruits, body temperature checking, physical distancing, periodic rapid-test, and many more. It aims to engage the safety protection of employees, customers, business partners, suppliers, and stakeholders in port and shipyard," said Denny Hermanto.
In connection with 'the New Normal' Scenario by the Ministry of SOE, urges the employees aged below 45 years old to work at the office. It has been socialized to several employees. "However, the amount of employee that works at the office has to be regulated properly by considering the KPI, avoiding crowded working space, and employee's medical condition. Even though several operational departments already maintain to work properly in places of deployment," he stated.

Such as adding multivitamin supply, provides Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), medical kit in vessel and shipyard, and personal hygiene equipment. "Maintaining daily team briefing is always conducted by executing physical distancing and aims to implement Occupational, Safety, and Health (K3). The medical check-up for ship crews and ship hygiene checking has been periodically executed and developed the checking accuracy," He said.
The implementation of Information Technology has to be developed, especially the software optimization, primarily on operational monitoring of bunkering, up to the software application to support the administration business process to maintain the paperless document system. Moreover, internal meeting or external meeting with customer or shareholders has to be conducted online by utilizing software that is safe for sharing document and keeping private data. "Marine Care Facility is ready 24/7 to receive and respond to customer's complaints. Thus, we can maintain the service excellence provided by Pelindo Marines," he said.
Surabaya (5/5) – Mariners, the familiar name given to the employees of PT Pelindo Marine Service (Pelindo Marines), PT Alur Pelayaran Barat Surabaya (APBS), PT Pelindo Energi Logistik (PEL), dan PT Berkah Multi Cargo (BMC Logistics) (Pelindo III Group), enganged the donation of Mariners Care! 2020. ‘’From the donations that has been collected by the employees and sponsorships, the distributions are 1.250 food supplies and masks, 2.000 medical masks, 200 hazmat, and 20 boxes medical gloves’’, said The Committee Head of Mariners Care, Tito SW, in the midst of second stage distribution with mariners and the representatives of each donation recipient in the Al Farisi Mosque, PMS Office, on Tuesday (5/5). This event was attended by the Pelindo Marines President Director who is Eko Hariyadi Budiyanto, APBS President Director who is Wawan Sulistyawan, PEL Director who is Sarjono, and BMC Logistics President Director who is Johanes Wahyu Hertanto.
Tito SW also stated that the Covid-19 pandemic has spread and captured there are a lof of people get the impact of economy crisis. Mariners initiated to contribute on social donation and announced it through social media. It got a lot of positive responses. The donations are in the form of money and food packages. It was collected by employees of PMS, APBS, PEL, BMC, also the other employees of Pelindo III Group, and another companies that focus on maritime logistics sector, and banking sector.
He also stated that the distribution of food packages divided into some stages. The first stage was held on 2 stages. The first stage was held on April 20th, that distributed 500 food packages and masks. Then, in the second stage, distributed 750 food packages and masks. For each package, included 5 kg of rice, 500 mL of cooking oil, 4 instant noodles, and non-medical mask.
‘’There were a lot of people can save lives of this donations. They were the poor that live surroundings mariners, in the ring I area that’s near from PMS Group’s office (Port of Tanjung Perak), rickshaw pullers and online drivers, Islamic tutors, retired workers, orphanages, veteran widows. The donation distribution was collaborated with Head of RT in those areas, journalist associations, and Instagram account of @AsliSuroboyo that has published the information about Mariners Care, which has been spread to 971K followers’’, said Tito SW.
In addition, Tito stated that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) would be donated to medical team in hospitals and Satgas Covid-19 in East Java, who has been at the emergency vanguard of Covid-19. Furthermore, Mariners Care also did a disinfectant spraying for public area, as follows traditional markets, residents center, schools, mosques, churches, and Hindu temples in surrounding areas of the port.
President Director of Pelindo Marines, Eko Hariyadi Budiyanto, appreciated those contribution of Mariners Care as the humanitarian action. “It reminds us that the extensive network of mariners expresses the spirit of gotong royong, aimed to help people in crisis life. Gotong royong is the nation characteristic that is crucial to be attempted by the government and citizens to against Covid-19 pandemic,’’ his statement.

The donations that was collected by the employees, on the 1st stage distribution, there were 500 food packages and masks that has been donated. For each package, it was contained 5 kg rice bag, 500 mL cooking oil, 4 packs instant noodle, and 3 fabric masks.
The distribution of 250 food packages was carried out, in collaboration with @AsliSuroboyo Instagram account, that has 964 thousand followers. It aims to expand the extensive network and aspiration to donate food packages and masks for people in need.
In addition, hundreds of food packages was also donated to the representatives of the poor, informal workers, rickshaw pullers, online drivers, Islamic tutor/ management of mosque/musholla that live in Perak and surroundings.

We hope that the donation concept through employees participation in a workplace or organization may inspire a lot of people to initiate the similar humanitarian action. Surabaya (18/2) – Ministry of Transportation appoints Indonesian State Owned Enterprises Pelindo III to provide pilotage and vessel towage services in the Malacca Strait, Phillip Strait, and Singapore Strait. The area is declared as an exceptional pilotage watershed Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) shipping route next to neighboring countries, Malaysia and Singapore. The subsidiary of Pelindo III, Pelindo Marine Service, will start the Surabaya headquartered maritime SOE to expand its international market.
The Decree of Directorate General of Sea Transportation was handover by the Capt. Agus Arifianto to Pelindo III Engineering Director Joko Noerhudha, who was accompanied by President Director of Pelindo Marine Service, Eko Hariyadi Budiyanto, in Surabaya, Tuesday (18/2)
“At this moment, it is historical day for Pelindo III, after having some stages of performance evaluation, infrastructures, and HR. Consequently, Pelindo III is appointed to handle pilotage service in TSS. In order to keep the competition position in global market, the pilotage service in Malacca Strait have to provide service excellent, as the protection of Indonesia’s national endurance and logistics supply,” said Agus Arifianto in opening speech.
At that time, Joko Noerhudha, appreciates the strategic performance of Directorate General of Marine Transportation, Ministry of Transportation, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that has succeed to strengthen Indonesia’s territory and build up the national income on maritime industry. “By having The Decree of Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Pelindo III by the hand of Pelindo Marine Service, as State Owned Enterprises, becomes more reliable and secure to handle Indonesian pilotage and vessel towage services for international ships in Malacca Strait and surroundings,” he stated.
“Pelindo III urges all the subsidiaries to expand their business out of captive market. In addition, they have to invent by providing added value to global customers. It becomes big advantages of international expansion,” said Joko Noerhudha.
Eko Hariyadi Budiyanti declared that the business opportunity on handling pilotage and vessel towage services in that territorial has been studied by The Littoral States. The Forum Tripartite Technical Expert Group (TTEG) was attended by Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. “The negotiation found out the clearness in Intersessional Meeting of The Working Group on Voluntary Pilotage Services in Straits of Malacca and Singapore, in Bandung, early 2007. This meeting was initiated at the 41st TTEG Forum, in Yogyakarta,” he said and also attended TTEG Forum.
Furthermore, it affirms the Indonesian Government’s commitment to handle the national maritime sector expansion. Ministry of Transportation awarded that chance to State Owned Enterprises, especially Pelindo III that has the subsidiary on marine service, PMS, that has handled pilotage service in Malacca Strait for recent years.
“It becomes hard competition. There are some pilotage or marine advisory that has been handled by Malaysia and Singapore. In reality, 60 percent of the territory is owned by Republic Indonesia. It becomes the challenge for international maritime community that Indonesia is able to manage Malacca Strait. The pilotage and marine advisory services that has been handled by Pelindo Marine Service, are the initial work planning of Indonesian Government to expand vessel traffic information system (in the Malacca Strait),” he said.
The maritime educator of ITS Surabaya, Saut Gurning, also attended the event. According Straitrep (2019), at the period time of 2009-2019, there were almost 60.000-85.000 vessels that pass through Malacca Strait for a year. “There were only 300 vessels that has been handled by Indonesia. It should be around 2.000-3.000 unit. It would be successful strategic for handling service on huge vessels, for instance VLCC (very large crude carrier/tanker),” he stated.
In addition, the amount of 60,000-85,000 ship units per year, showed that the economic value of pilotage service reached Rp 45 trillion. The total derivation value could be Rp 360 trillion. In fact, Indonesia did not aware that they handle the service in the most eastbound area (Indonesia territory), Sumatra-Natuna areas.
“Currently, the realisation value is almost 80 thousand vessels, estimated 70% is handled by Singapore, because they have a port. The Indonesia interport have to be expanded, for instance Kuala Tanjung. If we only handle hinterland segment (proponent port area), the profit value is not significance. Several stakeholders, which are government, SOEs, private companies have to cooperate for gaining the potential sector in Malacca Strait,” he said.
